We are delighted to host the talented Ross Howell to share his new novel, Forsaken, which takes us back to 1912 where our protagonist, a young journalist, covers the historic criminal trial that sends a 16 year old African-American Virginia Christian to the electric chair for murdering her employer, a white, 51 year old widowed man. The injustices of the trial send him on a lifelong civil rights crusade.
This is a novel whose release you'll want to be a part of. Please join us at Main Street Books on Thursday, March 3rd at 7 pm for Ross Howell's book talk and signing, followed by a reception.
“A story unearthed from old newspapers, a searching look at the facts, eloquent testimony and behind-the-scenes evidence: Forsaken is the fair trial Virginia Christian never had, in which the innocent are justly treated, the guilty finally charged. The last question we the jury are asked to consider, in light of today’s murderous headlines, is whether the old racial hatred and oppression have returned, hidden in the same shadows Mears noted over a hundred years ago.” – Atlanta Journal-Constitution
