Main Street Books has the profound honor of hosting the epically observant New York Times bestselling humorist David Sedaris on May 31st as he tours to promote the release of his forthcoming book, Calypso. David Sedaris, who spoke to a sold out Ovens Auditorium last year, is the most high-profile and beloved author we've yet had the fortune of bringing to Davidson.

Sedaris is the author of short story and personal essay collections Barrel Fever, Holidays on Ice, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, and Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls, each of which appeared on bestseller lists immediately after releasing. Sedaris’ pieces appear regularly in The New Yorker and have twice been included in “The Best American Essays.” There are over ten million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages.

To celebrate Sedaris and his readers, Main Street Books is organizing a town-wide block party in the parking lot between Summit Coffee and Ben & Jerry’s, and everyone's invited.

At 6 p.m., Sedaris will offer remarks inside the store to ticket-holding fans. Main Street Books will stream audio from inside the store to outside party-goers. Around 8 p.m., Sedaris will be escorted to the outdoor party, where he will sign books and chat with every reader who waits in line to meet him.

The theme of the party, inspired by the title of Sedaris' forthcoming book, is CalypsOlympics. Festivities will include stations facilitating friendly, Sedaris-themed competitions, the Gyro Twins Food Truck, live music, and a signing table where Sedaris will meet with all of his fans.

Although most store-organized festivities will wrap up at 10 p.m., the party itself will continue until every guest has had an opportunity to meet Sedaris.

Signing line priority will be given to fans who pre-ordered a copy of Calypso from Main Street Books.
