Main Street Books has lived in the old general store on Main Street in Davidson, NC since 1987 when Barbara Freund & Betty Reinke established the area's most esteemed bookstore. After 27 years of expertly putting books in the hands of bibliophiles all around town, Betty & Barbara retired in 2015. Adah Fitzgerald now carries the torch as proprietor of Main Street Books,. In early 2016, the bookstore got a facelift - Adah repaired & painted the antique bookcases, polished the original wood floors, refreshed the layout, and created a comfortable sitting area for quiet reading and events..
Our mission is to feed the imaginations of our readership with a full line of new books in addition to a wonderful selection of cards, journals, and gifts. At our core, Main Street Books is a group of kindred spirits who share a love of the written word.
Adah Fitzgerald, Owner
Adah grew up eavesdropping on her mother's book club discussions and hiding in her closet to read after lights out. She's proud to be at the helm of a literary institution in a community with such avid and interesting readers.
Catherine grew up living all over the Western hemisphere and reading bilingually. Her local legacy includes directing area literacy programs for ten years.. At Main Street Books Catherine juggles superb customer service with astute book buying.
Drew is an avid Michigan State fan, loves cold & rainy weather, and will drive a few miles out of his way to visit a cronut shop. His favorite books to recommend include Tangerine, Born to Run, and every cookbook whose author has brought food to share at their book signing.
Eleanor, bookseller and events coordinator
Eleanor studied literature at Connecticut College and always says yes to an adventure. She's taught English in Greece, guided kayaking tours in Maine, and enjoys recommending books by Sloane Crosley and Colum McCann. She stepped into the role of Events Coordinator in January 2016 and is responsible for lining up and hosting our store events.

Have you seen the Hogwarts House banners that we put up for Harry Potter & the Cursed Child? Lily is the bookseller/artist behind those magnificent pieces. She follows in the (very large) footsteps of her older sister who was a bookseller through all four years of high school.
Serena grew up in Davidson and now attends UNCC, where she is a student of music and gender studies. When she's not composing music, wow-ing crowds at the Summit Open Mic Night, and babysitting Adah's children,, she's devouring books from a diverse array of authors - from Jane Austen to Trevor Noah - and offering editorial input on her literary father's manuscripts.
Anna follows in the footsteps of her older brother, Drew. Anna is an avid reader of young adult fiction
