Every year on the last Saturday in April, independent bookstores across the nation celebrate and are celebrated, using the day as an opportunity to acknowledge and build our roles within our respective communities. This year, festivities at Main Street Books will include sweet treats in the morning, Moving Stories with Camerin plus a bonus story time with Police Chief Penny Dunn, recycled paper making class, literary cocktails in the evening, celebrity booksellers throughout the day, exclusive Independent Bookstore Day merchandise, and much more!
9 - 11 a.m. Duck Donuts -- Free donut with purchase while supplies last!
10 - 10:30 a.m. Story Time with Davidson Police Chief Penny Dunn
10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Face Painting with Bookseller Lily
2 - 3 p.m. Paper Making Workshop with Barista Devin -- Main Street Books will supply the materials and Devin will supply the expertise, so you needn't bring anything.
4 - 5 p.m. ReadDavidson Book Discussion with Dr. Carol Higham -- Dr. Carol Higham, professor of history at UNCC and a Davidson resident, will lead a book discussion of this year's ReadDavidson selection News of the World. She’ll provide a historical perspective of the pos-Civil War relationship between Native Americans and the German immigrant population in the southern United States. Thanks to sponsorship from Davidson Learns, drinks and food will be served.
